What chance encounter changed your life forever?
In 1994, a beautiful young nerdy tax accountant moved into the office across the hall from me (we had actual offices back then. I know, right) while I was working as a researcher at KPMG in Washington DC. Been together ever since.

This isn't entirely a chance encounter but I'm glad I was fortunate to attend it. I ended up attending one of Sandi Metz's three-day workshops. It reinforced a lot of the software engineering principles I take to heart these days but also what it means to live and breath quality software.

Meeting a mentor who first recognized my skills as an illustrator, showed me examples of artists doing things I found interesting and gave me a long-term (10 years) goal of practicing to become a master.
